The McAleese Legacy

In 2012, the McAleese Family embarked on a new venture with the founding of Kells Brew Pub, now known as Kells Brewery, in Northwest Portland. This marked a fresh chapter for the renowned Irish pubs in Seattle, Portland, and San Francisco.

Garrett McAleese, the son of Kells Irish Pub founders Lucy and Gerard McAleese, had initially ventured into International Business and spent time living abroad in Argentina.

While in Argentina, Garrett befriended some Americans establishing a brewery. Embracing the opportunity, he immersed himself in the brewing process, eager to absorb all the knowledge he could. This invaluable experience, coupled with the unique recipes he developed, prompted his return to the U.S. Fueled by passion and newfound expertise, Garrett shared his vision with his father, leading to the inception of Kells Brewery.

The Original Kells in Portland

Founded in 1990, Lucy and Gerard McAleese introduced Portland, Oregon, to Kells Irish Pub, which quickly became a cornerstone of the vibrant dining and entertainment scene.

Located in the historic Glisan Building in the Southwest part of the city's Old Town Chinatown neighborhood at 112 Southwest 2nd Avenue, the pub became a beloved spot for both locals and visitors alike.

Kells Irish Pub is more than just a place to dine and drink; it's a testament to the McAleese family's dedication to preserving Irish traditions and providing a warm, welcoming space for all. The pub continues to be a beacon of Irish hospitality in the heart of the city.
